What the service is

Jewelry Identifier reads one photograph and writes an identification report about the piece in it: the object type and construction, the material clues that are visible, any markings that can be resolved, the style families the design belongs to, and the checks worth doing next. It is an informational reading of an image, produced with the help of an automated vision model.

What the service is not

It is not an appraisal, a valuation, an authentication, a gemmological report or a certificate, and it is not advice to buy, sell, insure or part with anything. No report states a price, a value or a purity, and no report can confirm a metal, a gemstone, a maker or a date. Those require the piece in hand and a qualified professional. Do not rely on a report as the basis of a transaction.

Accuracy

Reports are produced automatically and can be wrong, including confidently wrong. Every report carries a confidence score, a judgement of the photograph and a list of what a photograph cannot settle; read them. The service is provided as is, without warranty of any kind, and to the extent the law allows, liability is limited to the amount you paid for the analysis in question.

Your photo

Upload only photographs you have the right to use, and nothing unlawful. Photos are read once and never stored; seePrivacy. You keep every right you hold in your own photograph. The report written about it is yours to use.

Purchases

Analyses are sold as one-time purchases in USD through Polar, the merchant of record, which handles payment, invoicing and tax. One credit unlocks one full report. Credits are valid for a year from purchase, are not transferable for cash, and are held against an anonymous link rather than an account, so keep your receipt email.

Because the report is delivered immediately on unlocking, a spent credit is not refundable once the full report has been shown. If something went wrong — the analysis failed, a credit was taken and no report opened, a duplicate purchase — write to us and we will put the credit back or refund it. Unspent credits can be refunded on request within 14 days of purchase.

Fair use

Uploads are rate limited. Do not resell the service, script it in bulk, or present its reports as a professional appraisal or certification, whether yours or ours.

The sample photographs on this site belong to their photographers and are used under the licenses listed onPhoto credits. The site copy, the report format and the software are ours.
